Handheld GPS For Your Phone
Google Maps vs. Verizon VZ Navigator
We have been testing Verizon’s VZ Navigator and Google Maps for a while.
Google Maps is free while Verizon charges $10.00 per month for VZ Navigator.
VZ Navigator offers voice prompts while Google Maps does not. You must look at the phone or have someone read the directions to you if you use Google Maps.
Google Maps uses both GPS and cell tower triangulation to pinpoint your location. VZ Navigator uses GPS.
On several occasions the directions provided by VZ Navigator were very poor, all requiring using alternate methods to navigate to our destination.
A better solution to VZ Navigator or Google Maps is a low cost Garmin or similar unit. Many of their models could be purchased for close to the annual cost of Verizon’s VZ Navigator.
