RFID protection

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification.

Examples of RFID in use are EasyPass, SpeedPass, passports and the New York State enhanced drivers license. Several banks also embed RFID tags into their credit cards.

One of the concerns is people are able to scan for RFID’s without the knowledge of the person being scanned. A person equipped with a scanner could use it while in a movie theater to gather personal information. Since these scanners are inexpensive, this is entirely possible.

The next time you are buying a wallet, check to see if it has RFID protection built in.
